At Colorado Excavating, ownership means being directly involved in the daily operations of the company. Cory Gollnick, the owner of Colorado Excavating, embodies this philosophy through his hands-on approach to leadership. Growing up in Rapid City, SD, Cory and his older brother learned the value of hard work by helping their father run a residential painting company. This upbringing instilled in Cory a strong work ethic that has carried him through his professional life. In 2003, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, a milestone that reflects his commitment to leadership and excellence.

Cory’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s in Construction Management from South Dakota State, followed by a Master of Business Administration from the University of South Dakota. While pursuing his MBA, Cory gained invaluable experience working for Bechtel, the largest construction company in the nation. From 2006 to 2014, he played a key role in major construction projects, honing his skills in construction management and leadership.

In 2014, Cory decided to follow in his father’s entrepreneurial footsteps by acquiring Colorado Excavating. Under his leadership, the company has grown significantly, expanding its services and reputation throughout the state. Unlike many business owners, Cory prefers to remain directly involved in the day-to-day operations. You’ll often find him driving a dump truck, operating heavy machinery, or performing maintenance on equipment. This hands-on approach ensures that every project receives the attention and expertise it deserves.
